In-house financing is a loan issued by the dealership that sells the car, which is why the same lots are called buy here pay here dealers. The dealer decides approval on income and residence rather than a credit score, typically asks for a down payment between $500 and $2,000, and collects payments weekly or bi-weekly at the lot or online.
Because the dealer carries the loan, interest rates run higher than bank financing, often 15% to 25% APR, and the vehicle usually carries a GPS or starter-interrupt device until the loan is paid.
The dealer's own website is the test. BHPH Finder reads each dealer's site and flags phrases such as "in-house financing", "we finance" and "buy here pay here". Only dealers whose sites say it appear on this page. Call before visiting: ask what down payment they need, whether payments are weekly, and whether they report payments to the credit bureaus (only 1.2% of dealer websites say they do).
