I can only imagine the meeting that created Carvana. Somebody probably looked at a claw machine, looked at a car dealership, and thought, "You know what? Let's combine them." Instead of salespeople following customers around a lot, they built a giant glass vending machine for vehicles, handed people oversized coins, and somehow turned car buying into an arcade game. Against all odds, it works. Now, I tend to plan vehicle purchases years in advance. When I bought a brand-new Ford Fiesta years ago, it wasn't just for me. I knew Sebastian would eventually reach that coveted learner's permit age, and I didn't want a vehicle payment waiting on me when he did. I paid it off, and when it became his car, the financial stress wasn't there. If he had a fender bender, it wouldn't be attached to a car payment, and the insurance costs were lower because full coverage wasn't required. So when Spencer's future driving years started appearing on the horizon, I applied the same logic. Spencer wanted a truck. I preferred something with four-wheel drive and a little less room for teenage creativity. As parents know, sometimes our job is simply removing options before they become stories. A Jeep won. The entire process happened online. I picked the vehicle online, completed the financing online, and never had to make a single phone call. Ray and I drove to Charlotte, dropped a giant coin into the machine, watched Spencer's future Jeep descend from the glass tower like a prize on a game show, and within about thirty minutes we were headed home. That was it. No pressure. No marathon negotiations. No salesperson disappearing into a mysterious back office to "talk to the manager." Just a vehicle, a vending machine, and a surprisingly smooth experience. By the time Spencer reaches permit age, the Jeep will be paid off as well. That means lower insurance costs, no vehicle payment hanging over our heads, and one less thing to worry about when another teenager joins the driving ranks. Sometimes the simplest plans end up being the best ones. And sometimes the craziest ideas end up becoming giant glass towers full of cars.

Seriously, the best experience. That was one of the easiest transactions I've ever made in my life. We got several other quotes to sell our car and Carvana's offer was tops. The employees at the Charlotte location were professional, friendly, and helpful throughout the purchase and delivery process. They treated me with respect and did everything they could to answer my questions. I have no complaints about the local staff. The car itself—a 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400—is mechanically excellent. An independent Mercedes-Benz inspection confirmed that, and I decided to keep the vehicle. My disappointment came after the sale when I reported cosmetic issues that were identified during the Mercedes inspection. The inspection documented previous cosmetic repairs, including a poorly refinished wheel with paint overspray on the brake caliper and a previously repaired quarter panel with overspray and poor paint blending. These were not simply scratches or normal wear. Carvana approved one interior trim repair but classified the wheel issue as normal wear and would not provide any assistance with the quarter panel. I contacted customer service and requested additional review, but the only option ultimately offered was to return the vehicle. My advice to anyone buying from Carvana is simple: **Have an independent inspection performed immediately while you're still within the return window.** Even if the vehicle drives well, an inspection may uncover previous repairs or cosmetic issues that aren't obvious during delivery. I still like my car and plan to keep it, but I wish Carvana's post-sale customer service had matched the quality of the experience provided by the Charlotte team.

I purchased a 2019 Chevy Silverado with around 50k miles, expecting a truck that was “Carvana Certified” and “fully inspected.” What I received was a dangerous, neglected vehicle that should have never been on the road, much less sold at a premium. First red flag: the truck arrived wearing OEM tires—yes, the original tires from 2019—that were severely dry rotted with almost no tread left. These weren’t borderline. They were unsafe. Any legitimate inspection would have flagged them instantly. Carvana refused to cover the replacement under warranty, dismissing an obvious safety hazard. Then came the pre-purchase inspection, and that’s when things went from concerning to absolutely unacceptable: • No oil on the dipstick. Zero. Bone dry. How does a vehicle go through an “inspection” and get shipped to a buyer with no oil? • Tag lights not working because the wires were completely cut. Not frayed. Not loose. Cut. • A damaged, disconnected electrical pigtail harness hanging at the rear of the vehicle. No explanation. No warning. Just shoddy, unsafe, undisclosed damage. Realizing just how bad this truck was, I immediately started the return process—within three days, well inside Carvana’s return window. Instead of handling it professionally, they made the experience even worse. Carvana repeatedly refused to return my trade-in, even though I met all their requirements and notified them within the allowed timeframe. Every conversation was a runaround, every promise contradicted, and every attempt to resolve it turned into more stonewalling. It genuinely felt like they were trying to trap me in a defective truck by holding my trade hostage. In short: Carvana sold me an unsafe vehicle, denied obvious warranty issues, and then tried to keep my trade after I followed their return policy exactly.
