I had a very frustrating experience with this dealership. I was upfront from the beginning that I live in Maryland and needed to register the vehicle there, even though I’m currently working in Massachusetts. I specifically asked about this before moving forward, and I was clearly told it would not be an issue—that I would receive temporary tags, drive the car to Maryland, and handle registration there. I was also told taxes would be paid in Maryland and that my down payment would be $2,400. Later, I found out taxes, registration, and title fees were being added into the financing, along with dealer documentation and VSI fees totaling about $800 extra. The bank had also adjusted the vehicle value from $14,900 to $13,750, which I understand is common when lenders base financing on actual vehicle value. Instead of clearly explaining this, they tried to act like the price change was somehow incorrect. If they did “lower” the price of the car themselves, it was done to add the doc and VSI fee so it could work with my down payment since I was apparently approved for $16,000 for the loan. Which would’ve cover the cost of the vehicle, but they simply did not want to mention the additional fees. Every concern was blamed on the “bank”. When I asked why I was being charged title and registration fees, especially if I still had to handle registration myself in Maryland, nobody gave me a straight answer. They kept avoiding the question and talking about refinancing later, which had nothing to do with the issue. They also later claimed Massachusetts RMV does not issue temporary tags for out-of-state residents, which conflicts with what I found on the RMV website. On top of that, they never mentioned I wouldn’t even be leaving with the car that day after paying my down payment. Instead, I was expected to travel to Maryland, get my own plates, and then return to Massachusetts—all after I had already purchased insurance for the vehicle based on what they originally told me. Communication was terrible. The salesman stopped responding to my texts when I raised concerns, and when I pushed back respectfully, the owner told me he would rather refund my deposit because I “just wanted to argue.” I was never arguing over the car price or even the extra dealer fees—I was only trying to resolve the title, registration, and temp tag issue because that was the entire basis of the deal. The owner did agree to refund my deposit and said he would reimburse my insurance cost if the bank would not allow registration in Massachusetts. Assuming they intended on calling the bank in the first place, I’m still out the insurance cause I don’t intend on getting the car. At this point, I have already lost time, money, and a lot of unnecessary stress. This wasn’t about honesty on pricing, it was about poor communication, withheld information, and a lack of professionalism. A dealership should know how out-of-state registration works, especially if they are charging customers for title and registration fees. Instead, they avoided direct answers and made the process far more stressful than it needed to be. Overall, this felt like another used car dealership relying on old tactics and poor transparency. Very disappointing experience, at one point they tried having me sign documents in a language I don’t even know, I had to have the finance girl send it to my phone so I could read the contract. Even if she didn’t intend to do that intentionally, it shows complete incompetence on who trained her. I’m honestly fearing some type of retaliation, like shotgunning my already struggling credit to avoid me buying a vehicle elsewhere since I can see that they’re responding to many of their negative reviews as “fake”. I’ll be nervously waiting for my refund.
