Enjoyed the personal touch, without the over the top pressure of trying to force more product. Yes Johnathan offered and gave plenty of supporting information. I just never felt like he was beating me in the head
My sister and went to purchase her first car and we had an excellent experience with Chris Montgomery. He was very kind and encouraged us to take our time with choosing a car. He was thorough, genuine, and provided excellent customer service. We will be back to see Chris the next time we are looking for a car.
Decent experience. I do wish the agent would have spoke a bit more. Explained the vehicle. It was a quiet awkward test drive but other than agent needing to be a bit more personable, it was great. I love my car!
Been there a few times. Lots of trashy cars, definitely speaks Columbia. Lots of bad paint repairs, bad smelling cars, looked like a bunch of low cost auction cars nobody wanted. There was an occasional nice car or truck, but a lot to sift through to find them. Never got waited on, even though they said someone would. Go online to other CarMax locations to find a better "no haggle price" vehicle.
What seemed like a trustworthy place to buy a vehicle turned out to be a very disappointing and frustrating experience. On December 30, 2025, my husband and I purchased a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L from CarMax. The first issue occurred the very next day after we got home. My husband opened the hood to investigate a strong odor coming from the engine compartment that smelled like a dead animal. When he tried to close the hood, it would not latch properly. We had to return to the dealership so a mechanic could repair the faulty hood latch mechanism. The source of the terrible smell turned out to be the cabin air filter. When my husband removed it, it was completely filled with dog hair and dust. This raised serious concerns about the quality of the inspection process. CarMax claims that vehicles undergo thorough inspections and detailing before delivery, yet something as basic as replacing or cleaning a heavily contaminated air filter was apparently overlooked. Around the same time, a warning light related to the starter system appeared on the dashboard. When we brought this to CarMax’s attention, we were told that the warning was being triggered by the defective hood latch and that there was nothing else wrong with the vehicle. The hood latch was repaired, and we relied on CarMax’s explanation. What is even more concerning is that CarMax did not create or retain a service record for that visit because, according to them, it was considered a simple issue. As a result, there is no documented record showing that we reported a warning related to the starter system while the vehicle was still under warranty. Looking back now, this raises serious concerns about whether the original warning was properly diagnosed. A few days later, the vehicle’s screen began displaying CarPlay connection errors. To this day, that issue has never been resolved. However, the most shocking problem occurred immediately after the 3-month warranty expired. The vehicle displayed another starter system warning, and later that same day the Jeep completely shut down and has not started since. We returned to CarMax to report the issue because this was an expensive vehicle that was represented as being in excellent condition. Unfortunately, the response we received was extremely disappointing. The representative who assisted us was very firm, dismissive, and even rude. She stated that CarMax had no responsibility because the warranty had already expired and suggested that we simply take the vehicle to a mechanic we trust. This response raises a serious question: Is it acceptable for a dealership to sell a vehicle with potentially significant underlying mechanical issues, make repairs that only last long enough to get past the warranty period, and then refuse to help once those problems become evident? Customers purchase vehicles from CarMax because they trust the company’s reputation and inspection standards. The fact that a starter system warning had already appeared during the warranty period, was attributed to the hood latch issue, and was never properly documented makes this situation even more troubling. Shortly after the warranty expired, the vehicle displayed the same type of warning, shut down completely, and has not started since. This sequence of events suggests that a more serious problem may have existed long before the warranty ended. In our case, that trust was misplaced. We are now left with a vehicle that will not start, significant repair costs, and no support from the company that sold it to us. This experience has been extremely disappointing, and I believe consumers should be aware before making a purchase decision. In my opinion, this is an unfair and unacceptable way to treat customers who place their trust in CarMax. I expected much better from a company that promotes itself as a reliable and customer-focused dealership.
