Today Nov. 17. 2023 was able to purchase a Chevy Equinox LS 2014 at SELECT AUTO DEALERS Corp. Located in Brooklyn. I was attended by Jamine who help me out through out the process of this purchase. Highly recommend for a pre-owned vehicle. Great service provided by Jasmine and rest of staff.

Really did not want to write this review and was against it for weeks but after pressure from friends and others in the automotive community who continuously bring this up and reporting the car as a lemon as a "civic duty," I'm relenting. But if anyone reads this, please do keep in mind that Select Auto seems like an independently-owned small business and my experience could very well be a unique one. Even after spending 3x the price of the car on repairs, I still like the car. The pressure from others to write this review is mainly because other buyers at this dealer may not be able to afford repairing a car that was represented to them in good condition. Buying a lemon is certainly no fun…especially in a city like NYC. I have a habit of buying cars on enthusiast sites and purchased a Jaguar XJ on Cars & Bids (as mentioned by a previous reviewer). The listing received a lot of negative comments due to the dealer not answering any questions properly and providing seemingly sparse details about the car. The dealer also mysteriously deleted their account shortly after I won the auction. I looked past all this since I've been a business owner for several decades and can understand that things aren't always ideal. Working with Jasmine was good and she seemed courteous while helping me coordinate payment, title, and shipping. Due to issues with logistics after numerous hurricanes on the East Coast, I decided to just fly into LGA from NC and drive the car back down. I got excited about potentially buying a few cars a year from them. The first time starting the car, the CEL was lit (which was never disclosed in the listing). The engine idled fine and I generally try to be an easy customer so I let the issue go thinking it might just be a non-critical code. I drove immediately across the street to a full-service gas station because the tank was literally bone dry. Again, odd for a car purchased from a dealer. Roughly 10 minutes away from the dealer, I'm preparing to take the ramp for the Verrazano bridge and suddenly lose all power. The engine had cut off and all power braking and steering die.bI called Jasmine and texted her a photo of an error message on the dash (there were about 5 or 6 different messages) so she could show their in-house mechanic. A few minutes later, Jasmine calls me back with the unfortunate news that the mechanic has no clue. Instead of being upset, I was looking for ways to solve the situation and simply asked if anyone could come and help me look at the car or give me a ride since it can be hard calling an Uber while on the side of a ramp to a bridge. What I got in return was unfortunately what has given used car dealers in NYC a horrible rep. I was told that the car was in perfect condition before I drove it and that once I'm off the lot, it's my problem. After roughly $15k in repairs and multiple flights back up to NYC, the car is running now. I happily texted Jasmine and update. Never complained. Never asked for compensation or anything. Just wanted to be friendly as many in the car community are. Never got a response. The dealer had stated that all leather seats were repaired and posted photos of the seats in great condition. Turns out the seats were painted. An old trick from the used car dealer book. The car likely also was involved in a collision, although it probably wasn't big enough to warrant a Carfax entry but enough to need body work. Whoever did the work did a sloppy job as evidenced by paint over spray on the tail pipes. A cheap shortcut that was never disclosed. Heated seats that were listed as a feature but that don't work. A door that stopped functioning. Sagging headliner makes it hard for people to sit in the back. Countless dents and minor body damage. Broken sun visor. CD player that doesn't work. Again, these are all things that don't bother me but I would feel horrible for someone who saves up their money to buy a car only to need repairs worth many times the car over…or worse, cause an accident.
