There are moments in life you’ll never forget, and thanks to Lou Pedraza at Mercedes-Benz, June 22, 2026, will forever hold not only heartbreak, but also a beautiful memory. June 22 is my daughter Juanita “Mimi” Lolesio’s birthday. She should have celebrated her 28th birthday this year. Instead, every year I carry the unimaginable grief of losing her after she became an innocent victim of gun violence in Anchorage, Alaska. She was shot on December 30, 2017, remained on life support for 17 days, and on January 15, 2018, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go after she was declared brain dead. Her birthday is one of the hardest days of the year for me. This year, I spent the day doing my best to smile through the tears while celebrating her life with family. What I didn’t know was that my husband and Lou had been planning something incredibly special behind the scenes. While we were at dinner celebrating Mimi’s birthday, Lou came to the restaurant and asked me to step outside because he had “a gift from Mimi.” I honestly thought my husband had flown in a family member to surprise me. Instead, I walked outside and saw a beautiful Mercedes-Benz with a giant red bow waiting for me. I immediately broke down in tears. What made this even more emotional was that this wasn’t just any car. Mimi and I used to dream about owning Mercedes-Benz vehicles together. When she was 19 years old, we would talk about how one day we’d each have one. That dream was taken from us far too soon, but somehow, through this incredible act of kindness and thoughtfulness, Lou helped make a piece of that dream come true. Lou didn’t just sell a car. He helped create a memory that will forever be attached to one of the hardest days of my life. His compassion, patience, and willingness to go above and beyond turned a day filled with grief into one that also holds joy, love, and hope. Thank you, Lou Pedraza, for your kindness, your heart, and for helping make my daughter’s dream live on through me. I’ll never forget what you did for my family.
